Abstract
A continuous casting mould for metal strip has two main moulding surfaces 1, 2 spaced by side members 3, 4. Pressure blocks 5, 51 6, 61 hold the mould parts together. Cooling is provided by metal blocks 9, 10 with coolant bores 11. The blocks 9, 10 extend along only a part of the length of the main moulding surfaces, their length being 1% to 10% less than that of the main moulding surfaces. The pressure blocks 5 are also provided with coolant bores 12 in which the coolant flow may be varied. In operation, uniform cooling over the whole mould cavity is obtained as the short blocks 9, 10 do not remove heat from the mould cavity ends.
