910,569. Weighing-apparatus. SCOTT, V. N. July 3, 1961 [July 28, 1960], No. 26284/60. Class 143. [Also in Group XL (b)] In apparatus for weighing an object 23, the weighing platform 24 is supported on a plurality of hydraulic bellows 25, 26 forming part of an hydraulic system transferring the total pressure on the bellows to a chamber 30 containing a gasfilled bellows 31 opening into one half 8 of a chamber 7 partitioned by a diaphragm 6, the other half 9 of the chamber being at a suitable datum pressure. The weight of the object 23 produces a pressure difference across the diaphragm, causing it to distort and its two reflecting surfaces, equally illuminated from a single source, Fig. 1 (not shown), to reflect different amounts of light to a pair of photo-cells connected in a bridge circuit, giving an electrical signal representative of the weight of the object. Alternatively, the weight of the object may be measured by means of the pressure caused by the movement of a probe, loaded with the object, into the diaphragm chamber.
