Abstract

910,421. Feeding liquids. FOLEY, L. E. Feb. 20, 1961 [March 8, 1960], No. 8092/60. Class 66. A liquid feed device comprises a housing 10 in which is disposed a rotatable member 15 having a liquid passage 17 offset from, but parallel to, its axis of rotation, saidmember being weighted so that it tends to assume a position in which the passage 17 is lowermost. The housing 10 together with the neck 11 of a feeding bottle to which it is screwed forms a compartment 13 into which fits a member 15 in the shape of a prolate spheriod having a liquid passage 17 offset from its major axis and a hollow space so that the weight of the portion 18 tends to rotate the member 15 until the passage 17 assumes its lowest possible position. This ensures that the passage 17 remains below the liquid level in the bottle and air is not drawn out with the liquid. Modifications are described in which the member 15 is respectively a sphere, a cylinder and a disc; the member 15 may be weighted using metal inserts such as ball bearings. In a further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the compartment 13 is formed between the housing 10 and a second member adapted to be a push fit into the neck of an ordinary feeding bottle. The housing 10 and rotatable member 15 may be of plastics, metal or glass.
