977,651. Wind vanes. J. G. DE M. NASH. March 27, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 11097/61. Heading G1R. A wind vane has a vertical hub 1 within which a spindle 2 carrying crossed arms 14 with wind catching elements 15 may rotate and an arrow 12 or other indicator rotatably mounted on an exterior flange 9 at the lower part of the hub. The bearings for the spindle 2 are of the conical type ball bearing and the arrow 12 has an eye 13 which rests directly on the flange 9 although a thrust type ball bearing may be introduced between the eye 13 and flange 9. A pointer 20 fixed to the hub 1 serves as a fixed direction indicator e.g. due north, and the tube 10 welded to the end of the hub 1 fits into the base or support 11. Decorative mirrors 16, 17 may be illuminated by a small light source.
