In a falling-ball type viscometer, especially for low-viscosity liquids, the ball 2 is of the same material (glass) as the containing tube 1, or of a material having a similar coefficient of thermal expansion, and has a diameter slightly less than that of the containing tube, and has an eccentric centre of gravity so that the ball does not rotate during its fall.
