Abstract
909,904. Chromium and cobalt benzenemonoazo-naphthalene dyes. CIBA Ltd. Oct. 19, 1960 [Oct. 27, 1959], No. 35892/60. Class 2(4). The invention comprises 1,2-chromium or cobalt complexes of dyes of formula where R is a benzene residue with OH ortho to the azo link and contains two non- ionizable substituents, and one X is H and the other SO 3 H. The dyes are made by conventional metallisation processes. Preferred are dyes of formula where one A is H and the other SO 3 H and one of X, Y and Z is H and the other two are two different substituents, e.g. Br, Cl, NO 2 , Alko, Alk or NH Acyl. The dyes colour nitrogenous materials, e.g. silk, leather, polyamides, polyurethanes and especially wool. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring wool in red and blue tints.
