Abstract

The invention comprises 1-hydroxymethyl-3 - (5 - nitrofurfurylideneamino) - 2 - imidazolidinethione, its preparation by heating under reflux 1 - (5-nitrofurfurylideneamino) - 2 - imidazolidinethione (which compound and its preparation are claimed in Specification 850,006) and an aqueous formaldehyde solution, and pharmaceutical compositions containing the compound as active ingredient. Pharmaceutical compositions have antibacterial activity and may be administered orally (e.g. as tablets, powders, elixirs, solutions, suspensions or capsules) or parenterally.
