Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0933682/IV(a)/1> (wherein A represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-5 alkyl group and B an unsubstituted or substituted aryl or heterocyclic aromatic group, provided that B does not represent 5-nitro-2-furyl when A represents hydrogen), and the preparation thereof by condensing 5-nitro-2-furfuraldehyde hydrazone with an appropriate aldehyde or ketone, or condensing 5-nitro-2-furfuraldehyde, or a functional derivative thereof, with the hydrazone of said appropriate aldehyde or ketone. Pharmaceutical preparations.-The azines have both antibacterial and antifungal properties, and may be administered in, for example, tablets, capsules, powders or solutions.
