909,791. Automatic gain control. LOEWE OPTA A.G. Jan. 25, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 2897/61. Class 40 (5). The invention relates to a television automatic gain control circuit of the " gated " type, in which positive-going pulses from the line output transformer are applied over condenser 12 to the anode circuit of an automatic gain control valve 8, the cathode of which is coupled by common resistor 9 to the cathode of video stage 5 and an automatic gain control voltage is taken from the anode of the valve 8. Such an arrangement is liable to overload during the initial starting period, since the line output is the last part of the receiver to become operative, and once overloaded cannot function since the modulation from which the automatic gain control is derived is removed in the overloaded stages. To prevent this, the grid of the control valve 8 is connected by lead 13 to the cathode of the last intermediate frequency stage 1. The cathode circuit of this valve includes decoupled resistor 15, and if the valve overloads its cathode current rises, applying a positive bias to the grid of control valve 8 which makes this valve conductive to generate an automatic gain control voltage as soon as the line output is present at its anode.
