Abstract

A solid synthetic elastomer prepared by solution polymerization is recovered from its solution in a hydrocarbon diluent by admixing therewith a sulphide, coagulating to a solid crumb, separating off the solvent and drying. Specified elastomers are cis-1.4-polyisoprene, cis-1.4-polybutadiene and ethylene-propylene copolymers. Specified sulphides are hydrogen sulphide, sodium or potassium hydrosulphide, sodium or potassium tetra- and penta-sulphides, the alkaline earth metal sulphides, hydrosulphides and polysulphides, allyl sulphide, diisobutyl sulphide, ethyl disulphide, amine sulphides and ammonium sulphide. Rubber extender oils may be added before the elastomer is coagulated.
