Abstract
909,471. Ball-and-ring mills; centrifugal separators. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Feb. 11, 1959 [Feb. 14, 1958], No. 4866/58. Class 23 and 59. A ball-and-ring mill comprises a rotary tabletype feeder 25 and a shoot 31 for feeding material to be ground to the space within a grinding zone formed by a circular row of grinding bales 3 disposed between an upper non-rotary grinding ring 1 and a lower rotary grinding ring 2, a windbox 53 for effecting an upward flow of elastic fluid, e.g. heated air under pressure, past the grinding zone to entrain pulverized material and carry it to classifying means which include a variablespeed impeller 36 arranged to effect radially outward movement of the stream of elastic fluid and entrained particles towards an outlet duct 35 and of the oversize particles towards a wall 41 from which a plurality of shoots 46 deliver them to the space within the grinding zone via a platform 14 provided at the upper end of a rotary yoke 5 supporting the lower grinding ring. The upper grinding ring is urged towards the lower grinding ring by means of spring-loaded rods 18.
