In a rubbing-collar type shaft seal comprising a ring D urged into contact with a partition F, through which the shaft A extends, by a bellows I connected at one end to the ring D and at the other end to the shaft, the bellows consists of a length of helically convoluted flexible tubing. The bellows may be welded or brazed to the shaft at one end as at J, and connected in fluid-tight manner at its other end to a holder C for the ring D which may be of carbon.
