Abstract
909,341. Snap-action switches; cam-operated switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 19, 1959 [June 23, 1958], No. 20074/58. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XIX] A switch for intermittent circuit making comprises first and second rotatable members connected together by a resilient and powerstoring coupling, latching and latch-releasing means for temporarily preventing rotation of the second member during each revolution of the first member and a cam arranged for rotation by the second member to control a contact in said circuit. The switch may be connected to control a counter. As described, a driving shaft 1 drives via a gear G, a shaft 101 carrying a first rotatable member 106 connected to a second rotatable member 105 via a resilient and power-storing coupling comprising a spiral spring 107 having one end connected to the member 105 by a pin 105c and the other end connected to the member 106 at 106b. Latching means comprise a leaf spring 111 having one end fixed and the other end adapted to prevent rotation of the member 105 by engaging a pin 105d. As the member 106 rotates, a peg 106c projecting therefrom deflects the spring 111 to release the pin 105d so that the member 105 rotates under the action of the spring 107 which has been tensioned by the preceding rotation. After a predetermined angular movement, the member 105 is arrested by a second spring 115 secured to it engaging pin 106b on the member 106. The members-105, 106 then rotate slowly together until the peg 106c clears the spring 111, the free end of which then again engages the pin 105d. During its rapid rotation, the member 105, the outside of which is formed as a cam surface, is arranged to operate, one or more times as required, a switch comprising a spring- controlled lever 117 carrying a contact 117b adapted to engage a fixed contact 118a. The Provisional Specification describes in detail an embodiment in which the cam surface of the member 105 is replaced by insulating and conducting surfaces 5a, 5b, Fig. 2, adapted to engage brush contacts 13, 14.
