Abstract

909,105. Shoe bottom pressing-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Jan. 22, 1959 [Jan. 23, 1958], No. 2269/58. Addition to 747,019. Class 17 (1). In a shoe bottom pressing-machine according to Claim 2 of the parent Specification a high pressure between the heel seat and the heel pressing block 10, and a reduced pressure between the shank portion and the auxiliary devices 14, 16 are brought about by separate power means. The shoe is pressed upwardly by an abutment-plate 64 first with light pressure when piston 50 is moved in bore 46 in the larger piston 44 by fluid from conduit 144, and then with greater force when piston 50 is moved in cylinder 40 by fluid from conduit 140. Rotation of piston-rod 51 is prevented and its upward movement limited by pin 63 engaged in groove 65. A rubber annulus 66 permits slight universal tilting of the plate 64 on its supporting- block 62 which is adjustable on a member 60 secured to rod 51, and the plate, which is held in position by spring 72, is locked frictionally by engagement of a spherical projection 68 with a conical surface 70 on block 62. Blocks 14, 16, which are normally held in raised position by spring 80, are swung to operative position by movement of piston 108 which acts via spring plunger 124, equalizing lever 100, levers 92, equalizing levers 90, and rolls 86, 88, the movement of levers 92 being limited by stops 81, and rotation of piston 108 and lever 100 prevented by pin 102 engaged in slot 128. Fluid under pressure is supplied from accumulator A via valve V1, operated by solenoid So, and pressureoperated valve V2, with fluid-operated valve V3 controlling the flow to bore 46, sequence valve V4 and manually-adjusted pressure-reducing valve V5 controlling the flow to cylinder 40, and sequence valve V6 and manually-adjusted pressure-reducing valve V7 controlling the flow to cylinder 114. Solenoid So is controlled by a pneumatic timing device T. At presentation the shoe presses upwardly a spring-pressed rod 180 which acts via arm 200 and lever 206 to actuate button 196 which operates the timing device. On continued movement of rod 180, screw 212 disengages arm 200 and lever 206. Location of the shoe is facilitated by a V-shaped heel abutment 220 which is urged forwardly by a plunger 226 to a limit determined by adjustable stop-screw 228. When the shoe is released after pressing it is urged forwardly and drops into receiver 230. A thin metal sheet 22 preferably covers the surfaces of blocks 10, 14, and 16 which are heated by independentlycontrolled elements 240, 242, 244.
