[Also in Group XXIX] An electromagnetically actuated fluid flow control valve (see Group XXIX) has an electromagnet comprising two solenoids 22, 23 wound on a common former 24 surrounding a valve body 14. A non-magnetic plunger 19 carries an armature core 20 and the plunger is reciprocated in accordance with A.C. or D.C. supplied to terminals 27, to energize one or other of the solenoids. The core 20 may be of iron, tightly packed iron powder, but is preferably in the form of a bundle of electrical silicon steel wires while the body 4 and plungers 19 may be of brass, procelain, plastics, lead, or lead-antimony alloy, the plunger may also be of rubber.
