A nut and screw device of the recirculating ball type comprises a nut 14 and a screw 11 which contains an internal duct 21 forming a return path for the balls 28 which follow a helical track round the screw. Collars 19 and 20 are shaped to give a smooth transition from the duct 21 to the helical track and are stepped axially to effect accurate positioning relative to the screw 11 which is also stepped.
