Abstract
908,045. Stapling. GOODSTEIN, C. B. Feb. 23, 1961, No. 6665/61. Class 89 (3). [Also in Group XXV] Staple elements (from which are to be formed staples with parallel legs at the ends of bridge portions) each have a middle portion with inclined limbs 16 from which project legs 13 arranged collinearly on each element and the elements are separably joined in a strip, e.g. by flexible friable film coatings 18 along the upper edges of the legs 13. A staple for driving is formed in a stapling-machine from the leading round or rectangular sectioned wire element by flattening the inclined limb portion 16 and bending the element so that the legs 13 are perpendicular to it. The middle portion of an element may have a base 23, Fig. 6, parallel with the legs 13 and the legs may be of unequal length. A strip of elements may be wound into a coil or numbers of strips may be superimposed for stacking.
