[Also in Group XXVI] An expander-spacer ring for a piston ring comprising a U-section steel ring having uniformly spaced slits 2 in its upper and lower flanges 5, 6 extending alternately across each flange end into the web 7 and projections 4 on the inner peripheral edge of each flange is made from steel strip m slotted, by punching, as shown, bent into a channel and then bent into a ring; the projections being formed at the closed ends of the slits. In modifications, the projections are formed by cuts in the closed or open ends of the slits or in the web portions between the slits.
