Abstract

A washing and/or bleaching composition used for washing and/or bleaching textiles comprises an inorganic peroxy compound, e.g. an inorganic persalt such as perborate, percarbonate, perphosphate, persilicate or persulphate, hydrogen peroxide and sodium peroxide, and, as activator therefor, at least one compound containing one or more nitrogen atoms having at least two acyl groups attached to the same nitrogen atom, the activator being covered with a solid material soluble in the washing and/or bleaching liquid. The activator may be an N-diacylated amine, e.g. diacetyl methylamine, diacetyl ethylamine, diacetyl propylamine, diacetyl butylamine, diacetyl benzylamine and diacetylaniline, N-diacylated ammonia, e.g. diacetamide and dipropionamide, N-diacylated amide, e.g. N-formyldiacetamide, N-acetyl diacetamide, N-propionyl diacetamide, N-butyryl diacetamide, N-valeryl diacetamide, N-caproyl-diacetamide, N-acetyl phthalimide, N-acetyl-succinimide and N,N-diacetyl cyanamide, N-diacylated urethane, e.g. N,N-diacetylethylurethane and N-acetyl-N-propionyl ethylurethane, N-diacylated hydrazine, e.g. triacetyl hydrazine, tetraacetyl hydrazine, tripropionyl hydrazine, N,N-diacetyl-N1-benzoylhydrazine and N,N-diacetyl-N1-isopropylidene hydrazine, N-diacylated alkylene diamine, e.g.,N,N,N1-triacetylmethylene diamine, N,N,N1, N1-tetra-acetylmethylene diamine, N,N,N1,N1-tetraacetylethylene diamine and tetra acetylhexa methylene diamine, tetra acetyl phenylene diamine and the N-diacyl derivatives of semicarbazide, thiosemicarbazide and dicyano diamide. The activator may be coated with 1-30% by weight of one of the other components of the washing and/or bleaching composition, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, cetyl alcohol or a fatty acid alkanolamide, or with stearic acid, palmitic acid, a polyethylene glycol or a condensation product of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide. The activator may be coated by spraying on to it, preferably after granulation, a solution of the coating material in water or an organic solvent, e.g. isopropanol and ethanol, and drying. The composition may contain an amount of activator corresponding to 0,5-4,0 bound acyl groups per atom of active oxygen. Detergent bleaching compositions may contain isononyl phenol polyglycol ether, sodium tripolyphosphate sodium silicate (SiO2/Na2O ratio = 2/1), sodium soap, sodium carbonate, neutral water glass (Na2O/SiO2 = 1/3 ,3, fluorescent brighteners, dyestuffs and/or perfumes. The activator may be coated with 1-30% by weight of one of the other components of the washing and/or bleaching composition, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, cetyl alcohol or a fatty acid alkanolamide, or with stearic acid, palmitic acid, a polyethylene glycol or a condensation product of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide. The activator may be coated by spraying on to it, preferably after granulation, a solution of the coating material in water or an organic solvent, e.g. isopropanol and ethanol, and drying. The composition may contain an amount of activator corresponding to 0.5-4.0 bound acyl groups per atom of active oxygen. Detergent bleaching compositions may contain isononyl phenol polyglycol ether, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium silicate (SiO2/Na2O ratio = 2/1), sodium soap, sodium carbonate, neutral water glass (Na2O/SiO2 = 1/3 .3), fluorescent brighteners, dyestuffs and/or perfumes. The textiles may be treated with the aqueous compositions at temperatures below the boiling point, preferably at 15 DEG -85 DEG C. Specification 907,357 also is referred to.
