A filter circuit which may form part of an inverter as disclosed in Specification 907,311 comprises a winding 143 (which may be the secondary winding of a transformer) and one or more series tuned circuits of capacitance and inductance 152, 152<SP>1</SP>, 152<SP>11</SP>, each tuned to a harmonic frequency component of the input current, in shunt with the winding, the complete shunt circuit being tuned, by the inclusion of a shunt capacitor 144 if needed, to the fundamental frequency.
