Abstract

843,736. Rectifying. HAEFELY & CIE A.G., E. Sept. 19, 1958, No. 30057/58. Class 38(2). In a high-voltage cascade rectifier supplied at E 1 , E 2 by a high-voltage intermediatefrequency transformer, reactive currents due to stray capacitances C 1 <SP>(3)</SP>-C 3 <SP>(5)</SP> between the capacitor columns are compensated by connecting reactors L 1 -L 3 between selected points of the columns, the reactors having inductance values matched to the stray capacitances so as to give overall parallel resonance at the working frequency and the potential at the pairs of selected points differing only by the input alternating voltage. There may be one reactor for each of the cascade stages or one for alternate stages, their inductances then being in parallel resonance with restively the stray capacitance corresponding to one stage and that corresponding to two stages. If the cascade rectifier comprises one smoothing capacity column and two or more coupling capacity columns compensating reactors are connected between each coupling capacitor column and the smoothing capacitor column or, in the case of a symmetrical cascade connection as described in Specification 770,605, they may be connected between the two coupling capacitor columns.
