Abstract
907,061. Radiant heaters. FIRELESS GAS HEATER CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1961, No. 402/61. Class 126. A high-temperature radiant heater comprises a housing 12 containing a chamber 18 supplied with a mixture of gas or vapour and air and closed by a porous back-fire preventing element 46, and a combustion space 48 between the backfire element 46 and a heat radiating element 44. The back-fire element 46 comprises either fine quartz wool fibres which may be disposed loosely in an irregular pattern or woven or felted together, or a layer of perforated or porous ceramic material. The face of the back-fire element 46 adjacent the chamber 18 is covered by a wire mesh grating 56, and its opposite face is covered by wire screens 58 held together by clips 60. The radiating element 44 comprises fine quartz wool fibres and is sandwiched between wire mesh screens 54. An electric filament 64 or a spark plug is mounted within the combustion space 48. Ignition may be effected by a catalyst. The housing 12 is of rectangular shape and is lined with a reflecting material 19 and has rectangular frame members 34, 36 for supporting the radiating and backfire elements 44, 46. Gas or vapour from a nozzle 22 is entrained with air in a Venturi 20 projecting into the chamber 18. Specification 815,100 and U.S.A. Specification 2,775,294 are referred to.
