Abstract
907,057. Washing drinking glasses. ZIP INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 29, 1960 [April 30, 1959; April 14, 1960], No. 15180/60. Class 138 (1). A washing machine for drinking glasses comprises a rotatable carrier 28, Fig. 2, e.g. of wire construction, having holders 30, 31, Fig. 8, for the glasses, nozzles 44, 44a for discharging sprays of washing liquid on to the glasses, and at least one nozzle 43 for applying a jet of fluid, e.g. washing liquid, on to surfaces of the loaded carrier to cause the carrier to rotate. The latter surfaces may be constituted by the interior surfaces of the glasses to be cleaned or alternatively by the surface of vanes or buckets on the carrier. The carrier 28 is mounted in a cabinet 1, Fig. 1, above a cylinder 5, containing an electric heating element (not shown), and to which water is supplied during the washing operation through an inlet pipe 6 containing a solenoid valve 7 to displace heated water from the cylinder through the nozzles 43, 44 and 44a. The solenoid valve 7 is actuated by closing a push-button switch 13 provided with a timing device for maintaining the closure for a predetermined period sufficient to effect the washing operation. A thermally actuated switch 12 (not shown) in the upper part of the cylinder 5 controls the electric power supply to the switch 13 so that the solenoid valve 7 cannot be opened to initiate the washing operation until the washing water has been heated to a predetermined temperature. A perforated partition 9 reduces water circulation in the cylinder 5.
