Abstract
875,117. Apparatus for washing glasses. DISHMASTER APPLIANCES Ltd. Nov. 20, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956 (3); April 5, 1957], No. 29928/60. Divided out of 875,116. Class 138(1). A glass washing machine comprises a rack 10, Fig. 3, for supporting glasses 11 in a washing chamber 1 provided with an impeller 9, for circulating the washing and rinsing liquids, and which is driven by an electric motor 14 and so controlled by a thermostat (not shown) that the motor will not run unless the liquid being supplied to the washing chamber has reached a predetermined temperature: The thermostat is contained in a booster tank 18, Fig. 1, provided with an electric heater 29 controlled by a second thermostat, for boosting the temperature of hot water flowing therethrough from a supply pipe 21, Fig. 2, containing a solenoid valve 19, to a pipe 24 delivering the water to the washing chamber 1. When the water in the tank 1 has reached the said predetermined temperature the first thermostat energizes a pilot light 35 to indicate that the impeller motor 14 may be energized by closing a push button main switch 34. When this is done a solenoid-operated drain valve (not shown) beneath the chamber 1 is closed simultaneously with the energization of the motor 14, and a solenoid valve 46 is opened to allow detergent to flow into the chamber 1 from a tank 43. A motor driven timer mechanism 26, comprising cam operated switches (not shown), and controlled by a time delay device 27, is energized when the required amount of hot water and detergent have entered the chamber 1. The mechanism 26 then controls the operation of a cycle comprising (a) washing with hot water, (b) draining, (c) hot water rinsing, (d) draining, (e) rinsing with cold water supplied through a pipe 23 and solenoid valve 20, and (f) draining and de-energizing the impeller motor 14. The impeller 9 has curved blades as shown in Fig. 7 and a flat baffle plate 16 secured to its upper end. Liquid is thrown outwardly by the impeller 9 on to inclined baffle plates 8 which deflect spray on to the glasses. The tray 10 supporting the glasses to be washed has rollers (not shown) running in slots 7b in runways 7, and is connected by links 7e to triangular plates 4f at the sides of the door 4 of the washing chamber. This connection between the tray 10 and the door 4 is such that when the door is opened to the position shown in Fig. 3, the tray 10 is first pushed away from the door to avoid contact therewith and is then drawn outwardly through the door opening.
