Abstract

1,099,060. Washing ampoules. R. N. PRICE. April 18, 1966 [Nov. 22, 1965], No. 16939/66. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] In a machine for washing ampoules, a valve controlling sequential admission of washing water and steam to the ampoules, and drainage of water from the.machine comprises. a cylindrical chamber 82 through which water &c. is passed to the ampoules, containing; a valve disc 80, with .a single port (90), Fig. 5 (not shown), near. its periphery, the disc being geared to a motor 104 so that it rotates slowly and the port (90) passes over inlet ports (52, 60, 54, 62, 64), Fig. 4 (not shown), which successively admits water, steam, water, steam, and steam, to the chamber. At the same time, cam grooves (84, 86, 88), Fig. 5 (not shown), around the underside of the valve disc 80, Fig. 2, act upon the tail 78 of a pivoted flap valve 72, which is thus opened and closed as the washing cycle proceeds, to drain water collected in the sloped centre 71 of the chamber 82..out through a vent port 70. The sloped centre 71 of the chamber 80 is connected through holes 92 in the valve disc 80 with the main volume of the chamber, in turn connected through a hole 46 with a hole (36), Fig. 1A (not shown), in the base of a small tank (34), extending upwardly from which are hollow needles (30). The needles (30) each receive the neck of an ampoule (A) held upside-down in a support (24, 26). The whole machine is mounted in a sink (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), with the valve &c. below. Control of the rates of the various water and steam flows is effected by replacing resilient washers 68, Fig. 2, at the outlet ports 52 &c., by similar washers having larger or smaller central holes. The motor 104 is automatically stopped at the end of a washing cycle, by a switch which is mechanically opened through a connection with the geared drive to the valve disc 80.
