Abstract

907,007. Repairing furnace linings. BLOCH, J. Nov. 3, 1959 [Nov. 5, 1958], No. 37327/59. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for removing part or the whole of the lining of a furnace, converter or ladle comprises a horizontal rotary disc 6 formed with radial fins 7 throwing the material, e.g. dolomite, through adjustable openings 9 in a fixed cylindrical shield 8. The material is fed from a hopper 5 carried by the framework 1 through which extends a sleeve 4 enclosing the driving shaft 3. The whole apparatus is lowered by a crane into the furnace &c. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a shield or shields may be attached to the hopper. A Y- shaped shield may be attached to the hopper to guard a particular section of the furnace, e.g. a taphole, Fig. 5 (not shown). When the shield is fixed to the hopper, applied material may be smoothed by arms pivoted to the disc and carrying at their free ends smoothing surfaces which are pressed against said material by centrifugal action, Fig. 6 (not shown). Furnace &c. bottoms are treated by surrounding the disc with an inverted frusto-conical shield which diverts the material downwardly, Fig. 7 (not shown).
