906,809. Machining sintered metals. METALLWERK PLANSEE A.G. March 23, 1960 [March 25, 1959],No. 10324/60. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A method of machining refractory metals which have been shaped and sintered comprises impregnating the pores of such metals e.g. tungsten, molybdenum or alloys thereof, with an alkali metal or alloys of the alkali metals. After machining, the impregnating metal is dissolved or evaporated. A porous sintered body is impregnated with the alkali metal at temperatures between 50 and 400 ‹ C. and lithium or a sodium lithium alloy are given as examples of the impregnating metal &c. The machinery may be turning, milling, drilling or grinding.
