Abstract
Electrodes for a fuel cell (see Group XXXVI) comprise a porous matrix having (for the cathode) pore surfaces of metallic silver and finely-divided silver and/or gold dispersed in the pores and (for the anode) pores having wall portions of a silver-platinum or a silver-palladium alloy-one part of the porous metal to 7 to 20 parts of silver. The porous matrix of the cathode may be of silver, copper, nickel or a refractory or ceramic material and may include a screen or mesh or similar supporting members and is impregnated with an aqueous salt of silver which is subsequently reduced to metal.
