Abstract

906,767. Locking-devices for cases. GIL. LETTE CO. May 16, 1960 [May 27, 1959], No. 17168/60. Class 44. [Also in Group XVII] A pilfer-proof merchandise case comprises receptacle and cover members which are hinged together with one of the members having a projection which is movable into a recess of the other member when the cover is opened and a destructible locking-device which is engaged within the cover and projects outwardly in a position to obstruct said recess. As shown, the hinged cover 24, Figs. 6, 7, of a razor case has end walls 25 having downwardly-extending sectors 26 which are freely movable within recesses formed between the inner and outer end walls 14 or 14<SP>1</SP>, 15 or 15<SP>1</SP>, of the case receptacle. The rear edge of the cover 24 is offset upwardly so that a slot 28 is formed between the cover and the top edge of the rear wall of the receptacle when the cover is closed. On opening the cover is free to swing down outside the rear wall 13 and has projections 29 that pass into the recesses in the receptacle. The destructible locking device comprises a folded and scored card having a flap 33, Fig. 2, which is flattened by hand and inserted through the case slot 28 until arrested by notches 32 on the card engaging the cover walls 25. When fully inserted the flap 33 springs up within the case, thus locking the card against withdrawal and in a position in which a flange 31 of the card projects outwardly, blocking entrance of the projections 29 to the receptacle recesses beneath them. The cover is released by tearing the card. In an alternative locking-device the card is folded to provide an additional flap 45, Fig. 10, which is concealed and when pulled ensures that the card is removed from the case undamaged.
