Abstract
906,521. Contact-members for switches. OAK MANUFACTURING CO. April 25, 1960, No. 14397/60. Class 38 (5). A changeover switch is provided with two permanent magnets 16, 17 to produce snap action in each direction. A resilient member 31 carrying a contact 33 for co-operation with fixed contacts 29 and 291 also carries an armature 34 and has an extension 36 lying between plates 43, 44 arranged as shown on a second resilient member 38. The member 38 has a central portion cut-out to permit it to move freely past the fixed contacts and the magnets, and it carries a roller 46 whereby it may be urged to the position shown dotted. During such motion it strains the resilient extension 36 until armature 34 snaps away from magnet 17 and is attracted to magnet 16. Instead of having lost motion between plates 43 and 44 as shown, the extension 36 may be directly fixed to the member 38, in which case it must be long enough and flexible enough to permit the necessary flexure between its tip and armature 34. Alternatively, the extension 36 may be rigid and coupled between plates 43 and 44 by means of two coil springs. If the strip 31 is of steel, the armature 34 may be dispensed with. The magnets 16 and 17 may be replaced by armatures and 34 may comprise the magnet.
