Abstract

906,362. Photo-electric exposure control. AGFA A.G. May 8, 1961 [May 11, 1960], No. 16689/61. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XX] A diaphragm for a photographic camera includes two relatively movable leaves having congruent cut-out areas, the arrangement being such that the maximum diaphragm aperture is set when the said areas are in maximum register, movement of the leaves in the same relative direction increasing the aperture to the maximum and reducing it again and movement in the opposite direction achieving the same effective result, thus providing for two different aperture ranges, one on each side of the maximum aperture, and the diaphragm being adapted for operation by two independent means, each arranged for reciprocal relative movement of the leaves in a different one of the said two ranges, one of said means being an automatic exposure regulating means and the other of said means being a manual setting means, a semi-automatic exposure regulating means or an automatic exposure regulating means, the latter corresponding to a different exposure programme from the other said automatic exposure regulating means. As shown, diaphragm leaves 6, 7 are both pivoted at 8 and have exposure aperture defining areas 9, 10 respectively cut-out therefrom. For automatic setting of the diaphragm, manual setting means 16 is positioned at the end of a slot 2a-as in Fig. 1-and the leaves are set by means of a member 15 which bears two cam portions 15b, 15a engaged respectively under spring loading (not shown) by pins 11, 13 on the respective leaves and which is coupled-in known manner-to a scanner 4 for an exposure meter pointer 3. For manual setting of the diaphragm, member 16 is rotated in the clockwise direction from the position of Fig. 1, whereupon cam 16b, 16a thereon respectively engage pins 12, 13 on the two leaves and pivot them through their maximum aperture defining positions to the said second range. Areas 9, 10 may be in the shape of quadrilaterals (as shown), polygons, elipses, or approximate elipses. In modifications the positions of the co-operating pins and cams may be interchanged, each blade 9 and 10 may be provided with only one pin and the cams may be in the form of slots. The blades 9 and 10 may be provided with separate pivot points. In further modification, the member 16 may be coupled to a follow-up pointer or may be coupled to a second automatic exposure regulating means.
