Abstract

904,628. Boxes; packages. JOHNSON & SONS (LONDON) Ltd., SAMUEL. May 13, 1960 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 5150/59. Classes 18 and 94(1). A box having a hinged lid 2 comprises a plurality of pegs 17 projecting upwardly from the bottom of the box and adapted to receive supporting elements 20 on which sets of small articles, e.g. buttons 21, are mounted, the elements 20 being engaged with the pegs by holes 25 formed therein and the pegs being arranged in a single row at or near the box wall. Each element 20 comprises a strip of strong paper to which a row of buttons 21 is sown or stapled, the end portions 22 of several of the strips being stapled at 23 to form a bundle 24. A hole 25 is punched in each portion 22 to engage with one of the pegs 17. A transparent sleeve (not shown) formed with holes to register with the holes 25 may protect each bundle 24 during transit. The box may be made of polystyrene and is preferably opaque whereas the lid 2 is transparent. The lid is mounted on the box by bosses 8 on the latter extending through holes 5 in lugs 3, 4 (not shown) on the lid so that the lugs are rotatable about the bosses. The lid is held closed by projections 13, 14 on the lip 12 of the lid snapping into engagement with projections 15, 16 on the front wall 9 of the box. In a modification, Fig. 3, a cardboard box 31 has a liner 31a extending around four sides thereof. A lid 32 is hinged to the box by a strip of liner 33 and is provided with a window 36. The box and lid are provided with a decorative finish. A row of spikes formed by bending metal strips to U-shape are secured to the box bottom by adhesive to form pegs 37. A paper strip 40 is thrust over the pegs 37 and is adhered to the bottom to assist in retaining the pegs in position. Alternatively each peg may consist of a pair of flat metal prongs which can be splayed outwardly to retain the bundle in engagement therewith.
