Abstract

904,346. Spin driers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. (Philips Gloeilampenfabrieken N.V.). Jan. 17, 1961 [Jan. 28, 1960], No. 3123/60. Class 34 (2). A spin drier comprises a casing divided into upper and lower chambers by a partition characterized in that the partition has a peripheral flange spot-welded to the casing and the joint between the casing and the partition is sealed by vacuum or pressure impregnation with a sealing compound. The casing 5 is divided in watertight manner into an upper and lower chamber containing drum 4 and motor 5, respectively, by a partition 7 which has a peripheral flange 13 spot-welded to the casing and sealing compound 12 inserted in a channel formed by a re-entrant depression adjacent the periphery of the partition by pressure or vacuum impregnation. In a modification the re-entrant depression is replaced by a normal radius of curvature between the partition and flange. A suitable vacuum may be achieved within the lower chamber by connecting a pressure pump through a resilient bung in a central aperture of the partition, and/or the air pressure in the upper chamber may be raised to force the sealing compound into any crevices in the joint. The sealing compound may comprise polymerized polyvinyl chloride which may contain a softener such as dioctylphthalate.
