Abstract
1,039,043. Batteries. SVENSKA ACKUMULATOR A.B. JUNGNER. July 18, 1963 [July 20, 1962], No. 28410/63. Heading H1B. In a hermetically sealed cell having a sealing grommet 4 interposed between the lid 3 and container 1, the lid and grommet are retained by a rim 5 of the container and the cell is designed to permit gas to leak between the rim 5 and the grommet. This leakage may be achieved by providing scores 7 in that part of the grommet in contact with the rim (Fig. 5), by providing corrugations 6 in the rim 5 (Fig. 2) or by interposing a corrugated disc between the rim and grommet (Fig. 4, not shown). The lid shown in Fig. 5 is dished to permit expansion of the cell on rise in pressure. As the pressure increases the lid flattens, improving the radial seal between the grommet and container, and then bows outwardly allowing gas to escape through the passages 7 between the rim and grommet. If the lid is a snap-action retractive disc the container is made correspondingly resilient, but if it is not a retractive disc the container is arranged to deform beyond its elastic limit.
