Abstract
903,674. Cams. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. Aug. 10, 1960 [Aug. 24, 1959], No. 28898/59. Class 80 (3). An adjustable contour helical cam, particularly for an oil burner control unit, comprises an incomplete ring 20 of flexible material, such as nylon, and means for adjustably displacing the two ends of the incomplete ring relatively to one another in a direction parallel to the ring axis. The ring 20 is of rectangular cross-section and is split radially at 21, the opposed ends having integral drilled and tapped bosses 22, 23 through which pass adjusting screws 25, 26. A rotatable control knob 10 houses the heads of the screws 25, 26 and carries a semi-cylindrical mounting body 16 having a plate 29 at its lower end which supports the lower ends of the screws 25, 26. A guiding projection 24 on the ring 20 engages the mounting body 16 on the side remote from the split 21. The cam 20 is engaged by a follower member 32 which is moved axially by rotation of the control knob 10. Rotation of the screws 25, 26 in the same direction produces axial movement of the cam 20 whilst rotation of the screws in opposite directions changes the shape of the helix. In a modification the cam is in the form of a helix having more than one turn.
