Abstract

903,292. Apparatus and process for dissemination of volatile pesticides. AEROVAP HOLDINGS Ltd. Aug. 25, 1958 [Aug. 23, 1957], No. 26634/57. Class 81 (1). An apparatus for disseminating a volatile pesticide into the atmosphere or depositing it into a surface, comprises means for producing a forced draught of heated gaseous medium, e.g. air, and passing the heated gas through a foraminous structure on which is deposited the volatile material. A device which may be held in the hand is shown in the Figures, wherein a centrifugal blower driven by an electric motor, and an electric resistance heater are contained in the housing 1. The outlet section 5 is adapted to enable attachment of a metal cartridge 11 which is held in position by the threaded collar 8 acting on the cartridge flange 10. The cartridge holds a foraminous structure 13, e.g. glass wool, discrete particles which themselves may be foraminous or impervious, or preferably a self-supporting structure of, e.g. embossed, crepe or corrugated cardboard or filter paper on which is deposited the volatile material. The airflow may be controlled, e.g. by incorporating an adjustable opening in the inlet and/or outlet of the blower. The invention includes larger apparatus either portable or fixed which may be driven by an internalcombustion engine. Specified volatile materials are DDT, lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, diazinon, dehydroacetic acid and formaldehyde.
