Abstract

Self hardening compositions consist of a water glass and an inert inorganic filler which contains, as a hardener, a mixture of not more than 1% of at least one polymer of a degree of polymerization of at least 5 and containing acid groups or groups readily convertible into acid groups and which cannot by split off from the polymer chain and of not more than 3% of at least one silicofluoride and/or at least one fluoride of a mono-or divalent metal. The polymers are those described in Specification 894,905 whilst specified fluorides and silicofluorides are those of the alkali and alkaline earth metals. Specified fillers are quartz, kaolin, kieselguhr, graphite, silicon carbide and powdered glass, porcelain, chamotte, coke and stoneware, and are used singly or in admixture.
