Abstract

902,545. Percussive tools. HOCHREUTER, J. April 27, 1960 [April 29, 1959], No. 14672/60. Class 124. An electrically-driven percussive drill comprises a driving-motor and a shaft for rotating the tool arranged in axial alignment with the axis of the impact tool parallel thereto, the three axes lying in one plane, and a common transmission gear interposed between the motor shaft, the tool rotating shaft and a crank-drive for the impact tool. As shown, an electric motor 2 in a housing 1 is in axial alignment with a tool-rotating shaft 22, a bevel gear 4 on the motor shaft engaging a bevel wheel 5 on an axis perpendicular to the motor axis and carrying a crank-pin 6<SP>1</SP>, and a further bevel gear 21 on the shaft 22 also engaging the bevel wheel. The crank-pin 6<SP>1</SP> has a connecting-rod 7 ending in a crosshead 8 carrying one end of a spring 10, the other end of which is attached to an impact piston 13 which strikes the shank 14<SP>1</SP> of a tool 14 located in a ratchet-wheel 15 rotated by a pawl 16 on the shaft 22. The shaft of the bevel wheel 5 may also carry a rotary air compressor 26 to supply clearing air to the hollow drill, and the motor may be provided with a cooling fan 33. A resilient ring 19 may be provided be- tween a flange 14<SP>111</SP> on the tool 14 and the front of the housing to damp the recoil. -
