Abstract
902,429. Body harnesses. SOUTHERN GAS BOARD. Jan. 19, 1961 [Jan. 25, 1960], No. 2701/60. Class 141. Body harness for use in rescuing a casualty from a manhole &c. comprises a flexible sheet 10 of heavy canvas &c. having an aperture 11 for the wearer's head and including a chest part extending down to the waist, and a longer back part extending down to the upper part of the thighs, the back part having pairs of opposed lateral extensions 12, 13; 14, 15 for securing around the chest and thighs respectively. Rings 16 for the attachment of a lifting rope are provided at the upper end of the back part. A stiffening board 23 and a head-supporting frame 31 also are attached to the back part. A helmet 32 is so mounted on the frame 31 that it can slide to the required height but cannot turn sideways. A head guard 33 also may be mounted on the frame, and straps 36 are provided for securing the arms of a casualty in the harness above the head. In the harness described in the Provisional Specification, the helmet is replaced by a head band.
