Abstract
901,965. Mechanical garages and storage systems. ROTH, A. Oct. 9, 1958, No. 32284/58. Class 78 (4). A car or other object to be stored in one of a column of storage compartments 23, 231, 23<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 1, is first driven on to a platform 24 which is then raised in a shaft 22 to the appropriate level and which is provided with an endless chain 53 having dogs 59a, 59b for engaging with a lug 60 on a trolley 48 supporting two wheels of the vehicle, thereby pushing the trolley, with its load, into the storage compartment. The chain 53 extends on to an extension 51 of the platform which mates with corresponding recesses 52, 521, 52<SP>11</SP> in the floors 45, 45<SP>1</SP>, 45<SP>11</SP> of the storage compartments. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), two columns of storage compartments open into the elevator shaft and the platform 24 is provided with two extensions carrying the endless chain. The dogs 59a, 59b are each only operative in one direction of travel of the chain 53, and pivot out of the path of the lug 60 against the action of a spring when the chain is reversed. Alternatively, the dogs may be moved between operative and inoperative positions by electromagnets, Fig. 8 (not shown). Each dog may be provided with a horizontal roller for engagement with a vehicle wheel in order to dispense with the trolley 48. The endless chain 53 may be 'replaced by a trolley, Fig. 10 (not shown), which is driven along the edge of platform 24 by an electric motor-driven pinion engaging with a toothed rack on the platform 24 and which is provided with dogs which are projectable by hydraulic rams. Alternatively, the platform may be provided with a central extension on which a carriage, provided with a jack or electromagnet for engaging with one end of the vehicle, is movable. As shown in Fig. 15, the platform 24 is replaced by two platforms 92, 93 supporting beams 96, 97 which project into recesses in the storage compartment floors and on which runs a trolley 116. The trolley is driven by means of a peg, mounted on a driven endless chain 53f and engaging in a vertical slot in the carriage, and is provided with dogs 123 for engagement with lugs 124 on vehicle supporting trolleys 94, 94a.
