901,824. Pipe joints. STOCKDALE ENGINEERING Ltd. May 15, 1961 [May 14, 1960], No. 17104/60. Class 99(1). A sealing device for pipes, pressure chambers or vessels comprises a resilient member A, provided on one tubular member, having a rib a or alternatively a groove in which a sealing ring is provided, the rib or ring engaging a second tubular member B, the resilient member A being grooved on the side opposite the rib or groove to receive a reinforcing band a<SP>1</SP> or alternatively the resilient member may be reinforced by wires embedded therein. The resilient member may be tapered and may extend inside the tubular member B when the rib or groove is formed on the outside surface of the member B. The reinforcing band may be in the form of a clamp and when joining two pipes clamps may be provided around both ends of the resilient member.
