Abstract
Carbo-di-imides of the formula R1N=C=NR2, in which R1 and R2 denote identical or different aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic radicals optionally substituted by chlorine, bromine, iodine, alkoxy groups, phenoxy groups or nitro groups, are prepared by splitting off hydrogen chloride from a chloroformic acid amidine hydrochloride of the formula:- <FORM:0900968/IV (b)/1> by treatment with water and/or an acid-binding agent. Suitable acid-binding agents are alkali or alkaline earth hydroxides, carbonates or bicarbonates and tertiary amines. Chloroformic acid amidine hydrochlorides of the above general formula are obtained by reacting appropriate N-R1, N1-R2-ureas or thioureas with phosgene. Specification 794,689 is referred to
