Abstract

900,464. Feeding fuel. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION (HOLDINGS) Ltd. July 15, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 24394/59. Class 78 (1). In fuel-feeding apparatus of the kind comprising a supply channel containing regulating means and fuel-throwing means 23 adjacent the outlet 3 of the channel, the regulating means comprises toothed horizontal feeding rollers 4, 5 which are spaced apart and driven in opposite directions and arranged to fill the channel except for a narrow passage between them. Each roller comprises a number of toothed discs placed side by side and keyed to a tubular shaft which is journalled in flange bearings 8 secured to the sides of the apparatus. One end of each shaft is shaped as a flange 9, Fig. 2, on which a pawl 14 is pivoted. This pawl is connected also to the flange by a shear pin 16. Each tubular shaft encloses a driving shaft which is connected to the driving shaft of the adjacent apparatus by fixed claw clutches 12, 12a. The part 12 is formed with a cam-like radial projection 13 which is located adjacent to the flange 9 and transmits the drive to the pawl 14. The side walls 19, 20 of the supply channel are slightly convergent and having a pivoted scraper 21 mounted behind each of them. Springs maintain the edges of the scrapers in contact with the teeth of the rollers. Finely-divided fuel may be blown into the fire by compressed-air supplied through a slot 28 extending the full width of the apparatus.
