Abstract

900,195. Photographic films. AGFA A.G. Aug. 28, 1959 [Aug. 29, 1958], No. 29529/59. Class 98 (2). Photographic films containing gelatine protective or backing layers and having improved dimensional stability are obtained by incorporating in the silver halide emulsion layer, in addition to gelatine, a copolymer of acrylonitrile, an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride in an amount of up to 5% by weight of the monomers, and an ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid. The copolymer may also be included in the backing or protective layer. The unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride may be acrylic, methacrylic, maleic or fumaric acid, maleic anhydride or a semi-ester of a polybasic carboxylic acid. In the examples, the copolymer is obtained from butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile and methacrylic acid, with or without methyl methacrylate, or from butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, acrylamide and acrylic acid.
