Abstract

900,006. Visual indication of fluid flow. COULTHARD & CO. Ltd., WILLIAM. March 1, 1961, No. 7395/61. Class 69 (1). A visible drop-type indicator 12a is combined with a ball or like kind of flow indicator 14 whereby a count of drops may be made to check or to calibrate the indicator 14. One drop-type indicator may be used to give indication for a number of pump-operated flow lines each with a ball indicator, all being regulated as described in Specification 898,450, [Group I]. The indicator 14 comprises a ball 15 movable by fluid flow in an internally-tapered Perspex tube 13. The drop indicator 12a may be situated in the main conduit in line with the indicator 14 and on either side of it (Figs. 1 to 3, not shown); or it may be connected to the indicator 14 and main conduit by a bleed valve 19 which may be opened to enable drops to be counted when required, as in Fig. 4. It may be on the pressure or the suction side of the pump which supplies the main conduit and, according to its situation, may be enclosed in a vacuum sight glass 21 as in Fig. 4 or may be open to the atmosphere. The sight glass 21 may be graduated to measure the oil delivery from the drop tube. A non-return valve is provided at 17.
