[Also in GroupXXVI] An engine air-intake on aircraft is positioned in the leading edge of a wing wherein the upper skin panel 13 is extended forwardly by an extension 3 pivoted at 12 to a beam 17 within the wing and connected by internal structure to an air intake panel 5 which extends to form a throat At with an inner skin of the lower wing skin panel 4, the air intake then diverging rearwardly between said inner skin and a panel 15. The panel 15 has a pivotal connection 19 with a movable panel 18 which has a rib 20 slotted at 21 to accommodate a pin 22 fast with a bracket 26 secured to panel 5, a gap 16 being provided between panels 5 and 18 through which boundary layer air may be extracted from within the intake. For the purpose of varying the throat area bracket 26 is connected by a link 7 to an arm 8 fast with a torque tube 11 which carries a further arm 10 connected to a jack 9. Contraction of the jack will cause the panels 3, 5 to rock about pivot 12 with simultaneous movement of panel 18 about pivot 19 so that beak 1 droops and area At is increased. The arrangement may be inverted so that the protruding beak is located on the wing lower surface.
