Abstract
717,760. Jet propulsion plant. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1952 (Oct. 10, 1951], No. 23592/51. Class 110(3) An air intake duct 1 for a jet propulsion engine comprises a front portion 3 normally in sealing contact with a rear portion but movable forwardly to define a slot 6 which is at an angle to the centre line of said duct and trailing with respect to the direction of flow of air therethrough. The member 3 is slidably mounted on guides 4 and is actuated by hydraulic jacks 5 or screwthreaded actuators driven by electric motors. The member 3 is of plastic or light alloy construction and may house a radar scanner 7. Actuation of the member 3 may be controlled automatically by a power unit responsive to the air speed or Mach number of the aircraft.
