899,369. Electric selective signalling systems. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. Dec. 5, 1960 [Dec. 11, 1959; March 11, 1960], No. 41737/60. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XIX] A viscometer comprises a tube 1 surrounded by two induction coils 12, 13 and containing fluid and a ball 2 of magnetic material. As the ball falls past coil 12 an electric signal is generated and passed to the control unit 20 and to timing means so that a pulse counter is connected to a pulse generator to start the timing. As the ball falls past coil 13 the timing is stopped and a magnetic valve 11 is opened, the fluid entering tube 1 lifting the ball 2 until it rises past coil 12. This operates a delayed action switch to close valve 11 and the process is repeated. Fig. 2 shows a suitable circuit for use in the control unit 20. Passage of ball 2 past either of the coils closes relay 57. When its primary is energized, relay 58 energizes the primary of relay 62 and also operates rotating means 59 to turn rotary switches 60, 61 thus causing actions in the desired sequence when the ball 2 passes the coils 12, 13.
