Abstract

899,022. Paper-makers' wet felts &c. LOCKPORT FELT CO. Inc. Nov. 7, 1960 [Aug. 11, 1960], No. 38136/60. Class 96. A wet-press felt for use in the production of paper, or asbestos shingles &c. is formed of two or more fabrics laminated together by needling perpendicularly as at 15, or at an angle as at 16 or 17, one fabric consisting of cross-woven strands not in the direction of travel of the felt and a second fabric having its strands at an angle with the corresponding strands of the first fabric. As illustrated, the middle ply 10 has its warp threads lengthwise of the felt, and the plies 11, 12 have their threads diagonally thereto. The fibres driven by the needling may be disposed in splice zones extending at an angle to each other. The felt or any fabric ply thereof may be fulled. In an alternative form of felt, two woven fabric plies are needled together with an outer fibre-batt.
