Abstract

898,597. Moulding glass fibre resin rods, tubes &c. DEUTSCHE AKADEMIE DER WISSENSCHAFTEN ZU BERLIN. March 31, 1960 [Jan. 20, 1960], No. 11478/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXVIII] Glass fibres 1 are impregnated with resin at 3, preformed by mould plates 7, 8, 9, whilst allowing air to escape, shaped by nozzles 12, 13, the resin polymerized and gelled in ovens 10, 11, and the strand finally shaped in a nozzle 14 and set in an oven 15. The strand is cooled at 18 and cut into lengths at 20. When making tubes, a core of metal or heat-resistant plastics is used, extending from the position of the plate 7 to the nozzle 14, and the plates 7, 8 are replaced by a device which applies transverse windings to the tube. A separate impregnating tank which rotates about the tube is used.
